A collision-energy absorption device (1A) for a railway vehicle is provided with: an energy-absorption element (4) which is crushed during a collision; and a housing (5) which extends in a vehicle length direction so as to accommodate the energy-absorption element (4) therein. One end of the housing (5) is supported on a main structure of the railway vehicle. The housing (5) is configured from a plurality of cylindrical bodies (51) having overlapping sections which are coupled to each other. During a collision, parts coupling the cylindrical bodies (51) together break, and the housing (5) is telescopically compressed.
