The invention relates to an energy absorbing type bumper which comprises a bumper body and a frame. At least one energy absorbing mechanism is installed between the bumper body and the frame. Each energy absorbing mechanism comprises a front connecting plate, a pressure spring shaft, a protecting pressure spring, a rear connecting plate, a pre-tightening nut, a folded plate, a retaining spring, an alloy retaining block and a retaining spring gland. The bumper has the advantages that by means of the energy absorbing mechanisms installed between the bumper and the frame, when the bumper is collided, the pressure spring shafts retreat to compress disc springs, and energy generated by collision can be absorbed by the disc springs. Compared with a traditional bumper, the security coefficient of the bumper is greatly improved; the bumper is wide in application field, and can be applied to motor vehicles such as a truck or a car.
