The invention relates to the field of vehicle active safety design, in particular to a vehicle collision prevention prewarning system. The system comprises a radar sensor connected with a power supply for acquiring signals of other vehicles before and/or behind this vehicle, and a decision control unit for receiving signals of the radar sensor, wherein after the decision control unit analyzes the signals, the decision control unit outputs control signals to a warning unit to control the starting/stopping of the warning unit. A control method of the vehicle collision prevention prewarning system uses the radar sensor and the decision control unit for analyzing an actual distance and a minimum safety following distance of two adjacent vehicles in the same lane; and if the actual distance is smaller than the minimum safety following distance, the warning unit gives a warning signal to prompt drivers to adjust the vehicle speed or to change another lane, so that the vehicle collision can be effectively prevented.
