The invention discloses an energy-saving control method for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles based on road traffic information. The energy-saving control method comprises the following steps: obtaining the real-time road grade, the traffic information of front vehicles, and the information of a next charging station from a global positioning system and an intelligent traffic system; establishing a three-dimensional mathematical model of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for predicting the vehicle state in the future; defining the power consumption of the vehicle and the optimum control problem of energy management at the power sustaining stage, and providing a functional equation for solving optimum control amount; performing real-time feedback optimum control, solving the optimum control amount so as to realize the optimum allocation for charging and discharging of a storage battery, adjusting and optimizing the energy flow of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle on line according to the traveling conditions of the vehicle, obtaining the optimum performance of the system of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and using a planetary gear mechanism as an continuously-variable electronic transmission, so that an engine works at an efficient region; predicting the charging state of the target storage battery according to the road traffic information, and adjusting the energy flow of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle on line so as to achieve the purposes of saving energy and reducing exhaust.
