The invention relates to a variable frequency heat pump air conditioner of a rail traffic vehicle. the air conditioner comprises two compression condensation units arranged in the middle in parallel, and evaporation units positioned at the left and right sides, wherein each compression condensation unit comprises a variable frequency compressor, a low-voltage switch, a low-voltage sensor, a high-voltage switch, a high-voltage sensor, an exhaust one-way valve, a four-way reversing valve, an outdoor side heat exchange fan, an outdoor side heat exchanger, a defrosting temperature sensor, a drying filter, a liquid viewing mirror, an electronic expansion valve, a low-voltage side liquid storer, a refrigerant pre-distributor, a one-way valve and an electromagnetic valve; each evaporation unit comprises an indoor side heat exchanger, an indoor side ventilator, a compensating electric heater, a gas-liquid separator, a frequency converter, an air return port, a fresh air port, an air feed port and a fresh air temperature sensor; and the indoor side ventilator and the compensating electric heater are arranged near the indoor side heat exchanger. The variable frequency heat pump air conditioner of the rail traffic vehicle synchronously realizes the carriage temperature control comfort and excellent energy saving effect.
