Provided is a rubber composition for tire treads, which has low rolling resistance and also has wet performance that is improved to a higher level than those of conventional rubber compositions, while maintaining or improving extrusion processability thereof. A rubber composition which contains 100 parts by weight of a diene rubber containing 50 wt% or more of a hydroxyl-group-containing modified styrene butadiene rubber and 60 to 130 parts by weight of a silica, said rubber composition being characterized in that the ratio of the weight of an oil to the weight of a filler containing the silica is adjusted to 0.25 or less and a silane coupling agent having a mercapto group and a Si-O bond and diethylene glycol are contained in amounts of 4 to 15 wt% and 1 to 6 wt%, respectively, relative to the amount of the silica.
