The invention discloses an urban intelligent public traffic system based on GPRS (general packet radio service). The urban intelligent pubic traffic system comprises a public bus vehicle-mounted terminal, a monitoring center server and a public bus station electronic station board, wherein the public bus vehicle-mounted terminal comprises a public bus vehicle-mounted weight detecting device and a data receiving and sending device; the public bus vehicle-mounted weight detecting device comprises a distance sensor and a first ZIGBEE module connected with the distance sensor; the data receiving and sending device comprises a micro processor module as well as a second ZIGBEE module and a GPRS/GPS (global positioning system) two-in-one module which are connected with the micro processor module; a GPS antenna and a first GPRS antenna are connected onto the GPRS/GPS two-in-one module; the public bus station electronic station board comprises a PC (personal computer) as well as a GPRS module and a liquid crystal display which are connected with the PC; a second GPRS antenna is connected on the GPRS module. The urban intelligent public traffic system is convenient to operate, capable of enabling a passenger to know the information of specific arrival time, a crowed condition in the bus, and the like, and high in practicability.
