The invention discloses a mechanical gripper for hoisting steel plates. The mechanical gripper comprises a hoisting frame and a steel plate control frame. The hoisting frame comprises a hanging ring, and a hanging frame fixed at the lower end of the hanging ring; the steel plate control frame comprises a movable rod vertically fixed at the lower end face of the hanging frame, a bended hook bended to stretch towards a longitudinal central line of the hanging frame, and a stop lever; one end of the movable rod is connected with the hanging frame through a hinged shaft, and the bended hook is perpendicularly fixedly arranged on the side wall of the other end of the movable rod in the transverse direction; a hanging frame locating hole facing towards the center of the hanging frame is formed in the hanging frame; and movable rod locating holes distributed along a longitudinal central line of the movable rod are formed in the movable rod. According to the mechanical gripper adopting the technical scheme, when the stop lever is not assembled, the bended hook can be overturned and embedded in the lower end surface of the steel plate, the stop lever is assembled, and two ends of the stop lever are respectively fastened in the movable rod locating hole and the hanging frame locating hole through bolts, so that a press-down straight bar supports the upper end surface of the steel plate to realize force balance, and with the steady connection structure, the safety of the steel plate is guaranteed during the hoisting process.
