Disclosed is an urban rail vehicle brake monitoring system and method. The urban rail vehicle brake monitoring system comprises upper-computer monitor systems, brake monitoring devices arranged on carriages and CAN interface cards; the brake monitoring devices are in communication with a double-circuit CAN bus with the CAN interface cards, and the CAN interface cards are in communication with the upper-computer monitor systems through USBs (universal serial bus); the upper-computer monitor systems transmit control signals to the brake monitoring systems via the CAN interface cards, the brake monitoring devices forwards the control signals to a train brake monitoring device, the brake monitoring devices collect status information of the train brake device, and the status information is fed back to the upper-computer monitor systems via the CAN interface cards.
