A rail vehicle brake system and a monitoring method for a rail vehicle brake system are provided. The rail vehicle brake system includes multiple braking units and a signal system. The braking unit includes a master control braking device configured to control a rail vehicle to brake and multiple slave braking devices. The master control braking device is configured to monitor and count the total number of faults resulting in braking failure for all the master control braking devices and the slave braking devices. If the total number of faults is not less than a first preset number, a fault signal is sent to the signal system, so that the signal system controls each braking unit to perform emergency braking. With the above structure, in a case that the master control braking device detects that the total number of faults is not less than the first preset number, the master control braking device sends a fault signal to the signal system. The signal system controls each braking unit to perform emergency braking, so that the rail vehicle performs emergency parking, thereby preventing the rail vehicle from causing a safety accident.
