The invention provides a power following control method of a battery electric vehicle range extender. The power following control method of the battery electric vehicle range extender specifically includes the steps that a whole vehicle controller obtains required generated power of the range extender according to a relation table of vehicle speed and driving power and calculates to obtain maximum charging power that is allowed in the current state of a power battery according to maximum charging current that is allowed in the current state of the power battery; if the required generated power is larger than the maximum generated power, the required generated power is limited to be the maximum charging power through the whole vehicle controller; the required generated power obtained according to the S2 and current generated power of the range extender are compared; if the required generated power obtained according to the S2 is not equal to the current generated power of the range extender, the whole vehicle controller enables the current generated power of the range extender to be transited to target generated power of the range extender in a gradient mode according to current accelerator pedal opening degree and brake pedal signals. According to the power following control method of the battery electric vehicle range extender, the transition is stable, whole vehicle vibration and noises can be covered to a certain degree, and the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) performance of a whole vehicle can be improved.
