The present disclosure relates to a system (10; 50; 60) for detecting rotational over travel, the system (10; 50; 60) comprising: an angular position sensor (12; 52; 62) comprising a rotor (14; 54) rotatable about an axis (16; 48), the angular position sensor (12; 52; 62) configured to output one or more electrical signals to indicate an angular position of the rotor (14; 54) about the axis (16; 46) and/or a number of turns completed by the rotor (14; 54) about the axis (16; 46); and a device comprising a first operating mode and a second operating mode and configured to transition from the first operating mode to the second operating mode in response to the rotor (14; 54) rotating beyond at least one angular position threshold (22, 24; 42), wherein the transition from the first operating mode to the second operating mode is independent of the one or more electrical signals.
