A typical rail clamp comprises a pair of levers, provided with a brake shoe at the lever's first end to apply a clamping force at the side of the rail. A typical push down rail brake comprises a piston rod, with a brake shoe at the rod's lower end to apply a holding force at the rail top. Both brakes are spring set, and the brake holding force depends on the applied spring force only. The invention provides a novel brake shoe assemblies for clamps and push down brakes, which create a wind activated holding force, in addition to the spring dependant force. Both shoes are constructed in a way to apply the wedge principle of action, and comprise equivalent components: a shoe block housing; a shoe holder, allowing relative to the housing motion; a serrated shoe brake pad, mounted to the shoe holder.
