Abstract The present disclosure relates to a novel regenerative braking for E-Rickshaw application. A drive system has been developed which has capability to capture the kinetic energy of E Rickshaw using a novel logic technique. The novel logic is derived by using zero crossing of back EMF voltage of running vehicle. The peak EMF is detected and the semiconductor device of inverter lower leg is switched to achieve the boosting action to charge the battery during braking. The proposed novel technique results in less switching losses as only one device is switched for regenerative braking compared to conventional regenerative braking.
