The aim of the invention is to transport heavy loads in repositories for nuclear and/or non-nuclear waste. This aim is achieved in that cable deflection pulleys are mounted on at least one conveying element, which cable deflection pulleys distribute the suspended load to two or more cable strands in each run in accordance with the block-and-tackle principle, one end of which cable strands is fixedly mounted above the travel path or on the conveying means. Clamping and lifting devices make it possible to secure the suspended load, e.g. in the event of a collision, while the overtravel-securing/overtravel-braking device can lessen the effects of overtravel beyond the travel path end points.
