Concorde 002 made its first flight of 22 min. duration from the B.A.C. facility at Filton to R.A.F. Fairford on April 9, 1969. The aircraft, at an a.u.w. of 240,000 lb. including 53,000 lb. of fuel, look-off at 175–180 kts. in 25·5 sec. after an estimated ground run of 4,500ft. It climbed away at 220 kts. to make three airspeed calibration checks at 9,000 ft. with the attendant Canberra and a simulated approach before landing at Fairford. The brake parachute and idle reverse were used after touchdown, the wheel brakes only being used at the end of the landing run.
