THE primary consideration in establishing a set of limits for use in the manufacture of any engineering product must always be closely related to the quantity of parts, or units, to be produced. Thus, the component parts of a motor car will be produced in quantities which warrant the manufacture of expensive jigs and tools, these being made to a precision, where demanded, far beyond that to be expected for parts which are other than mass produced. Diametrically opposite to this we have the case of an experimental aircraft, or similar engineering project, which will be produced to limits which are dependent upon the skill of the operatives in making the component parts without the aid of jigs, templates, etc.
