In 1958 Boeing began what was to be a revolution in the world of commercial air travel when it introduced the 707 jet airliner. The following years saw the development of the 727, 737 and 747 to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding airline industry. Now, twenty years and more than 3,500 airplanes later, Boeing stands at the threshold of another venture calculated to lead the aircraft industry into the 21st century: the 757 and 767 airplane programmes.
