While progress has been made since first geared propeller was used as earliest form of drive on first Wright plane in 1903, goal of development with high-speed plant is not attained; war was responsible for development of various forms of reducing gears now on market; specifications of gears and of early type of geared engines are given and design of various types of gear drives illustrated.
