Abstract The earth-atmosphere radiation budget data derived from the TIROS-N satellite during FGGE are discussed. Latitudinal averages of the outgoing longwave radiation and albedo values for various zones derived during FGGE period are compared with the four year average (1974–1977) satellite data. The differences in the observed radiation fluxes are attributed partly to various observational times and partly due to circulation changes.
