AbstractSn-Pb and Al-Cu alloys of different compositions have been solidified aboard Salyout 6 in the KRYSTAL and SPLAV furnaces. The compositions have been selected in order to obtain both stabilized and unstabilized configurations for the solidification front. In the former case the longitudinal and radial segregations have been measured. In the latter, the microsegregation has been quantified and the destabilized structures characterized. The absence of convection induces an important shift of the stability thresholds to the destabilization in agreement with the increase of the constitutional barrier. The growth directions in the Al-Cu system have been found different in the 0-g and 1-g environment giving rise in space to bidimensional dendrites.
