Energy requirements for 3-man orbit-to-orbit Earth-Mars round trip mission; capabilities of high thrust and micro-thrust systems for accomplishing mission; medium thrust nuclear electric rocket satisfying mission requirements; basic concept of thermionic nuclear magnetogas-dynamic system (TIN-MGD); vehicle configuration; nuclear and solar flare shielding; analysis shows that medium thrust vehicle could complete Earth-Mars round trip in 1 yr with payload fraction of 0.345.
