Q3 project for replacing Queen Mary, abandoned by Cunard, called for 200,000 shp in ship of 75,000 tons; approximate calculations for 2-shaft ship giving better propulsive efficiency than corresponding 4-shaft arrangement are given; calculations are based on displacement of 45,500 tons, block coefficient of 0.58 service speed of 29 1/2 knots; table shows possible propeller characteristics for 96,000 shp at 120 and 150 rpm.
