Results of experiments carried out at new shallow-water tank at Hamburg; investigations include: determining most efficient type of river tug for service on Rhine; value of increased area is clearly shown; for same area, screw tunnel tug is 7.5 per cent better than flap tunnel tug; subsequent tests showed twin-screw Diesel tug with propeller below keel to be most economical.
