Strain gage data taken on tanker during 3 trips, under various sea conditions, at various loadings and speeds; alternating bending stresses are by far most serious dynamic loads on shaft, and are mainly result of eccentric thrust, gravity moment, and torque reaction; comparisons for other ships, and design recommendations are included.
