Nonlinear mathematical model is used to predict head motions during automotive rear-end collision; physical characteristics of seat back are extremely important factors in mechanics of torso and head of car occupant; velocity and displacement as well as acceleration patterns of subject's head and torso on absolute and relative bases are studied; mathematical experiments are performed to study variation in patterns produced; concept of yielding seat back (damped and undamped) is studied as design concept for attenuating impact experienced by subject in rear-end collision.
