New lock being built west of Terneuzen will admit ships up to 50,000 tdw; gates are of sliding type; pivoting bridges at each end of lock provide land traffic facilities; filling- and emptying-time of lock will be 13 min; number of measures taken to prevent intrusion of brackish water into ship canal are described.
