For 1500 cc cars Borg-Warner uses 128-lb 3-speed transmission, Rootes Group cars have Smiths Selectric 3-speed; Ferguson Teramal transmission consists of hydrokinetic torque converter with auxiliary gear; Hobbs Mecha-Matic uses compound epicyclic gear train with friction clutches, hydraulically loaded; for larger cars General Motors has 3-speed Hydra-Matic, Mercedes-Benz uses fluid coupling and 4-speed planetary train; for Dutch small car, DAF, has separate belt drives to each rear wheel.
