Examination of operating cost of five helicopters and VTOL aircraft in comparison with fixed wing transport; projections of current cost experience; analysis shows that at range of 100 mi helicopter has direct operating cost of twice that of fixed wing aircraft; potential of helicopters and VTOL wing aircraft approaches cost of fixed wing aircraft for longer ranges, with lower operating costs of helicopter for shorter ranges.
