Problems with diesel and turbo-geared machinery are considered on basis of theory of vibration, from which scantlings can be established to remove operating conditions of machinery from resonant or critical conditions at which vibration may occur; instruments for noise and vibration analyses at John Brown and Co (Clydebank) Ltd are described, and examples of their use given.
