Shipyard modernization scheme undertaken by Cammell Laird and Co (Shipbuilders and Engineers), Birkenhead; program includes three phases; first and present phase involves erection of new plate and section shops, strengthening and lengthening of yard's southernmost building berths and installation of new jetty, construction of new 950 ft × 140 ft drydock, and installation of tanker cleaning berth with new pier into deep water.
