Apr. 21: In Coney Island shops of Brooklyn-Manhattan transit lines car trucks are brought in on dismantling track and go out on assembling tracks; between and perpendicular to those tracks are eight bays used for inspection and repair; stripping of trucks is done rapidly; individual parts are brought back to standard dimensions; assembling is done on stands. May 5: In intermediate truck-repair section of shops repaired trucks are substituted immediately for those removed so that cars are not withheld from service; facilities and methods used make it possible to carry on truck-repair work continuously and to organize shop forces along most effective lines; track over which cars come in has electric drop-pit table; attention given to labor-saving tools so that many of operations may be performed by single man. May 19: For efficient maintenance of wheel, gear, and axle parts, most modern machine tools have been installed; careful grouping of machines eliminates rehandling; wheel and axle department occupies section of shop 60 × 200 ft. June: Motor overhauling; all motors are of box-frame type; two general types of armature trucks are used; motor-frame overhauling is done on stands.
