Author disputes Fresenius theory and objects to erroneous concepts involved; his views are based upon PRANDTL boundary-layer theory which explains sustaining of run vortices by friction of hull sides; thrust deduction, in author's opinion, is not due to hull-suction effect, but to restriction of wake flow through propeller disk. (see also discussion by FRESENIUS, pp. 342-343; also author's reply in no. 17, Sept. 1, pp. 386-387, and discussion by HORN, pp. 387-390, 1 fig)
