Standard machinery arrangement which, in principle, applied to all bulk carriers and tankers of more than 15,000 ton dw has been developed by Kockums Mek Verkstads A/B, Sweden; 2 considerations were to provide main engine with separate console containing all controls and instruments for observation of all engine maneuvers and conditions, and 3 different levels where auxiliary units can be grouped logically in accordance with straight-line principle; section drawings show engine room layouts for 57,000 ton dw tanker and 20,000 ton dw bulk carrier.
