Current major expansions of existing subway network and freeway plan are designed to eliminate surface transportation along road traffic routes, with exception of cross-connections; mud strata in and around Tokyo forces complete slope-deflection structural analysis of all portions of structures; computer programs for almost unlimited arrangements of structural features of subway tunnels, stations with and without upperdeck arcades, and subsidiary machine rooms.
