Repair of turbine oil tanker following fire and explosion damage, which involved cutting out and removal of mid-section of vessel between cargo tanks and replacement by new section, repair of forward and after ends and joining up of all 3 sections in drydock; while method is not new, interest lies in size of ship and in advantages gained when 2 large shipbuilding and repair organizations pool resources; tanker is of 36,000-ton dw class; length oa before repairs was 690 ft and after 730 ft, volume of cargo tanks was increased from 1,567,500 to 1,740,000 cu ft.
