In 1951, commercial traffic on Allegheny and Monongahela rivers amounted to 37 million tons; Ohio river carried 56 million tons; tugboat "James E. Lose" built by Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp, for U S Steel has welded hull 115×27× 8 ft 6 in., and is powered by two Fairbanks-Morse Model 38 D 8 1/8, 4-cyl, 2-cycle diesels rated at 640 hp at 720 rpm.
