Great many floundered vessels around Britain's coasts have been refloated and towed into harbor, but rest are beyond repair and are being disintegrated with high explosives to clear sea routes; though work of refloating wrecks is practically complete, there are still some 500 wrecks to be dispersed; war time technique; between Sept 1939 and Dec 1944 salvage and rescue tug service saved more than 5, 000,000 tons of merchant shipping.
