Investigation carried out in experiment station of Technical Academy at Berlin-Charlottenburg on Horch, Mercedes, and Buick car; determination of moments of inertia of wheels and of forces brought into play by turning wheels; determinations of shimmy on chassis dynamometer and on street; angle of deviation, range of shimmying speed and period of vibration were ascertained with varying wheel-pivot inclination; with wheel contact in front of produced pivot axis no flutter took place; curves are given showing connection between shimmy and lead or trailing of wheel; good steering and freedom from shimmy in combination seems to be obtained with lead of one degree; shimmy is reduced by reaction of load on front axle.
