Emphasizes principal difficulty of model work in practical incompatibility of Froude and Reynolds' laws of similarity; shows that experiment work on frictional resistance of planks must be used to predict ship resistance from model and refers to recent work on resistance of long pipes; also to recent tests on Hapag liner Hamburg, in which, by means of special resistance ports let into vessel's sides amidships, frictional resistance of outer surface could be directly measured; these results clearly confirm results of pipe experiments; deals with scale effect of model propellers, tests on wake distribution behind solids of revolution of varying degrees of run fullness; effect of slope of after-body sections on wake and thrust deduction. See brief translated abstract in Mar. Engr. and Motorship Bldr., vol. 50, no. 594, Feb. 1927, p. 78.
