Valve requirements; test data show that reducing exhaust valve temperature 600 to 700 F has little effect on imep, octane number, and indicated specific fuel consumption; synthetic coolants investigated and compared with water; problem of combustion chamber deposits with ensuing power loss; effect of excessive volatility on engine; no radical developments in character of automotive engines expected.
