Prototype system was under evaluation from July 1967 to Jan 1968 in Transpacific Astrojet environment; over 170 flights totaling more than 1000 navigation hours were flown; system demonstrated requisite accuracy, reliability, and operational suitability for airline operation; accuracy of 1.2 nautical mi/hr was attained for flights 47 to 169, and overall accuracy demonstrated in program was 1.5 nautical mi/hr (CEP); flight evaluation was found to be extremely valuable for identifying and correcting system problems prior to production delivery.
