Review of work at Defense Research Laboratories of General Motors Corp in development of system for mooring vessels in deep water; e.g., in four-point moor in Tongue-of-Ocean research vessel Swan held position for 4 wk in 5800 ft of water, utilizing 7100 ft of 1/2 in. 6 ×9 wire rope on each mooring leg and 6000 lb anchors; four mooring buoys each had positive buoyancy of 8200 lb and vessel was moored by connecting 1 1/4 in. nylon lines from each buoy to pretensioning winches aboard ship; ship excursion was held to 25 to 30 yd in winds up to 30 knots; in 1966, one-point moors at 15,000 to 17,000 ft depths were achieved.
