New assembly hall serving construction dock to accommodate 500,000 tdw tankers, and possibly 700,000-tonners, will soon be brought into use at Kockums Mek. Verkstads, Malmo; dock and building hall together are well over 1/3 mi long and are spanned by Goliath gantry crane capable of lifting sections weighing up to 800 tons; this crane runs on rails extending from dock gate to landward end of hall; unusual feature is that hall has no end door, but roof sections can slide apart to provide areas through which large sections can be lifted; dock is 1330 ft long by 264 ft wide and 37 ft 10 in. deep; shipbuilding hall is 590 ft long by 243 ft wide and 131 ft high.
