New 2500 metric ton Crandall type slipway was inaugurated at Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, in May 1962; drydock consists of steel cradle, 350 ft long and 60 ft wide, traveling on curved inclined track 711 ft long; system of free rollers in bushed steel frames provides low friction rolling between carriage shoe plates and rail plates of ways; track is of 2-way type, which assures statically determinate distribution of weight to each way; steel cradle frame is divided, with hauling chains attached to inshore end of after section.
