Two standard cross-compound designs covering powers from 20,000 to 34, 000 shp for merchant ships have been prepared; need to apply them without major modifications to wide variety of conditions and situations was kept in mind; when two designs were optimized for variety of possible applications initial steam conditions at turbine stop valve were shown to be 700 psig and 950 F for C20S type, and 900 psig and 950 F for larger type C30S set; section and arrangement diagrams, and also heat balance and flow diagram for C30S propulsion installation at 28,000 shp are included.
