In manufacture of missile, compromise must be made between tooling costs and amount of allowable "slop" or backlash in control vane linkages; use of "time-frequency response" for missile and describing function for backlash allows reasonable tolerances to be set on control linkages; paper summarizes procedure by which such tolerances can be derived for missile system.
