Laboratory model study of dynamic response of right, simple-span beam and slab-type bridge was conducted to obtain information on nature of transverse distribution of moments and deflections in structure produced by moving vehicle; effects of initial vehicle oscillations and roadway roughness were studied; model of bridge-vehicle system consisted of single-wheel, single-axle, sprung-mass loading device acting on 6-ft span aluminum model of beam- and slab-type bridge having five longitudinal girders; mass of vehicle was fixed relative to bridge; alternate suspension springs allowed two vehicle frequencies to be considered.
