Problem of dynamic deformations or vibrations is dealt with in study of response of highway bridge to moving vehicle; it is shown how bridges perform under dynamic loading taking into account frequencies of vibration, stiffness, amplitudes of vibration, vibration intensities and human response; it is suggested that prevailing static deformation restrictions in design codes should be removed, and that highway bridge vibrations need not be regarded as principal design problems except in cases where pedestrian traffic will be important.
