New lock has length of 1640 ft between exterior rolling gates, width of 187 ft and depth to sill level of 44 1/4 ft; water level in docks complex is 14 ft while water level of river fluctuates between 10 in. and 16 ft 5 in.; two gates close lock chamber; gateheads are independent units in which systems for retaining and filling and emptying lock are situated; two gates (one in reserve) in each lockhead are moved transversely to axis of lock into recessed gate-chambers separated by concrete wall in which pump well of 26 1/4 ft is installed.
